Eddie Doll Ray
Eddie Doll Ray has been a faithful member of Keep Whitehouse Beautiful since its inception in 1990. A former educator within the community, she has not only taught home economics to a large cross-section of residents, but the importance of volunteerism as well; she has consistently encouraged individuals to engage in service activities around Whitehouse, including assisting the elderly, mentoring children and working with mentally and emotionally challenged patients at nearby Rusk State Hospital.
On other occasions, Eddie has been found reading to first graders as part of a field trip to East Texas; teaching the intricacies of papermaking, vermin culture, plastic-by-number and mulching; planting, weeding, and watering new additions to local environmental projects; spearheading KWB fundraising duties; and leading, organizing, educating and distributing t-shirts and maps at any number of local litter-prevention events.
Eddie Ray’s efforts have opened doors for KWB that would normally have been closed. To date, her biggest accomplishments have been her tireless efforts to bring outdoor education to Whitehouse and helping to raise $27,000 in just a single week to benefit more than 270 area students in their quest to attend camp. She even went a step further, providing funds out of pocket for two would-be campers.
Eddie Ray is not only active on KWB’s Education Committee, but attends every litter event, parade, educational booth and recycling event that is organized in Whitehouse. And as is her nature, she is the first to arrive and the last to leave. She is a beam of sunshine, constant in crisis, unfazed by the specter of defeat, always there to work the solution and faithful above all. Both KWB and KTB wish to thank Eddie Ray for all she does, and will continue to do, to keep Texas beautiful!
